ventral premammillary nucleus ( PMMv )

The term ventral premammillary nucleus (HYpmmv) refers to one of two premammillary nuclei (PMM) in the hypothalamus of the macaque ( Bleier-1984 ), the rat ( Swanson-1998 ) and the mouse ( Hof-2000 ). The other is the dorsal premammillary nucleus (HYpmmd). In the rat and mouse the HYpmmv mediates the effects of leptin as a permissive factor for the onset of puberty and the coordinated secretion of luteinizing hormone during conditions of negative energy balance. Neither of the premammillary nuclei is discernable by Nissl stain in the human ( Swanson-19988 ).
