basal ganglia of Martin

The term basal ganglia of Martin refers to an alternate definition of basal ganglia based on connectivity. It includes the striatum, the nucleus accumbens, the globus pallidus, the ventral pallidum, the subthalamic nucleus, the substantia nigra, and the ventral tegmental area ( Martin-1989 ).
