area 11 of Brodmann (human) ( 11 )
The term area 11 of Brodmann (human) refers to a subdivision of the cytoarchitecturally defined frontal region of cerebral cortex of the human. As illustrated in Brodmann-1910, it constitutes most of the orbital gyri, the straight gyrus, and the most rostral portion of the superior frontal gyrus. It is bounded medially by the inferior rostral sulcus and laterally approximately by the frontomarginal sulcus. Cytoarchitecturally it is bounded on the rostral and lateral aspects of the hemisphere by the area 10 of Brodmann (human), the area 47 of Brodmann (human), and the area 45 of Brodmann (human); on the medial surface it is bounded dorsally by the area 12 of Brodmann (human) and caudally by the area 25 of Brodmann (human). In an earlier map, the area labeled 11 was larger; it included the area now designated area 12 of Brodmann (human).
