anterior part of the ventromedial nucleus

The term anterior part of the ventromedial nucleus refers to one of four parts of the ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus in the rat ( Swanson-2004 ) and the mouse ( Dong-2004 ). It is defined on the basis of Nissl stain. The other parts in the rat and mouse are the dorsomedial part of the ventromedial nucleus, the ventrolateral part of the ventromedial nucleus and the central part of the ventromedial nucleus. The anterior and central parts are not distinguished in the human ( Saper-2004 ) or the macaque ( Paxinos-2009a ). Functionally it is part of the behavior control column of the subcortical motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
