area 10pp ( 10pp )

The term area 10pp (10pp) refers to a functionally identified part of cerebral cortex (CTX) at the frontal pole (frp) in the human ( Glasser-2016 ). Topologically it is located in the middle frontopolar gyrus (FPGm) and inferior frontopolar gyrus (FPG) of the frontopolar area (FPA) ( Mai-1997 ). Histologically it is entirely part of the granular cortical area 10p of area 10 ( Ongur-2003 ). area 10p has no histological equivalent in the macaque ( Carmichael-1994 ) nor in the rat or mouse ( Wise-2008 ). area 10pp is fMRI-activated during tasks involving WORKING MEMORY, THEORY OF MIND, and LANGUAGE as well as in STORY-MATH, and FACES-SHAPES contrast tasks. It greatly overlaps an area referred to by another author as Fp1 ( Glasser-2016 ). Updated 11 Sep 2024.
