dorsal tegmental nucleus ( DTg )
The term dorsal tegmental nucleus refers to a group of small neurons embedded medially in the pontine central gray of the pontine tegmentum. It is found in the human ( Paxinos-2012 ), the macaque ( Paxinos-2009a ), the rat ( Swanson-2004 ), and the mouse ( Franklin-2008 ). Some authors divide it into a central part and a lateral part in each of the species ( Paxinos-2012 et al. ). Functionally it is part of the dorsal pontine gray of the subcortical motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
