pons ( PON )
The term pons (PON) refers to one of two parts of the metabrain (MTB). Defined by dissection, it is bounded from the midbrain (MBR) rostrally by a nominally oblique plane, which passes from the caudal margin of the inferior colliculus (IFC) to the rostral margin of the basal pons (PONb) ventrally. caudally, it is bounded from the medulla (MDL) by a similar plane, which passes from the middle cerebellar peduncle (mcp) dorsally to the caudal margin of PONb) ventrally. It is connected to the cerebellum (CBL) dorsally by the cerebellar peduncles. It is found in the human ( Carpenter-1983 ), macaque ( Shantha-1968 ), rat and mouse ( NeuroNames ). Updated 26 Apr 2025.
