medial preoptic area proper
The term medial preoptic area proper refers to the cell sparse portion of the medial preoptic area in species where parts of the area are occupied by specific nuclei ( BAMS ). Functionally it belongs to the hypothalamic periventricular region of the subcortical motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
