Located between the thoracic segments (SPCth) and the sacral segments (SPCsc) they are labeled L1 to L5 in the human. These segments have massive anterior gray columns and posterior gray columns, are nearly circular in horizontal sections and give rise to the corresponding lumbar nerves ( Carpenter-1983 ). Defined by dissection, they are found in all vertebrates ( Swanson-2015 ). Final 24 Dec 2024.
