sacral autonomic nuclei

The term sacral autonomic nuclei refers to a group of neurons in the spinal cord located along the lateral gray column in sacral segments 2 to 4 ( Carpenter-1983 ). Functionally they belong to the parasympathetic preganglionic pools of the subcortical motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
